Root Canal Treatments (Root Fillings)
This is a complicated treatment and involves removing the nerve from a dead or dying tooth. This is normally a painless procedure and does preserve the tooth.
Front teeth normally have one nerve but can often have two.
Back teeth are quite variable and often have 4 nerves in them.
Root fillings materials nowadays are biologically inert unlike materials used many years ago which were based on formaldehyde.
Success rates of root filled teeth vary but generally the earlier the presentation the greater the success.
After being root filled, the tooth often needs a crown or a very strong filling on top to preserve and protect it.
